Ozone layer/hole
There are 2 pressing (naléhavý) problems with the atmosphere of our planet which is caused by emitting (vysílat) polluting materials into the air (ozone-hole and green house effect). The most pressing problem is caused by the damage of ozone layer in the stratosphere of the Earth. Ozone absorbs the UV radiation from the space which is dangerous for all organisms on the Earth.
Ozone is decomposed (rozložit se) by freons above all. It is necessary to stop using this things and try to replace it by another one or avoid using it if possible. These chemicals, which include CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and halons are used in refrigerators (lednička), air conditioners and some kinds of cleaning fluids.
Most of the damage has come from factories, which use far higher amounts of ozone destroying chemicals than do homes. CFCs were a common part of aerosol sprays for many years. And they are still used. When CFCs escape into the air, they slowly drift (postupovat) into upper atmosphere. There they attack and destroy ozone. Ozone is a type of oxygen that has three atoms instead of usual two.
This structure enables (umožnit) ozone to absorb dangerous UV radiation. Scientists estimate (odhadují) that each atom of chlorine destroys as many as 100 000 ozone molecules. Most of industrial nations agreed to stop using ozone-destroying chemicals by the year 2000. But I think this is not truth everywhere and in backwards countries (zaostalý) CFCs are still using…
